The Auction

Silent auction 3:00 - 5:30pm; Live auction 6:30pm

Get Ready!!

This event is going to be very exciting! Auctions are great fun and the cause is incredible - a secondary school for disadvantaged young people in Kenya! How often do you get to splash out a little and feel good about it? But that'll be on auction day... right now we need items for the auction.

The Challenge!

It's easy to donate that piece of junk in the basement that you never use anymore. One person's trash is another person's treasure right? Well, maybe, but here's the point. When we give, God wants us to give from the heart, even if it hurts. Giving from our excess - or our junk - isn't really giving at all from a scriptural perspective.

So, here's the challenge. Give something that will cost you something. Something that you like. Something that you use. Something that you'll miss. Let's rally to support this cause by giving something that'll hurt a little (or a lot). Each time you go to use that 'thing', you'll remember where it went and can take a moment to count your blessings. Experience the joy of real giving!

Donate an item to the auction

Have something to donate? Please send us a photo and description of the item by clicking on the button below. You can also let us know if you need us to pick up your item and transport it to the auction site.

Some of the auction items will be added to this website so people can see what'll be up for auction and also have an opportunity to place a proxy bid online.

View some of the auction items below

Below are some of items that have been donated to the auction (there will be many other items at the live auction that are not listed below). So, if you see something you like and love the idea of supporting the Agape in Action Academy, here's how you can bid:

1. Come to the live auction on Nov 19 and don't forget to bring your cheque book! It's very easy to bid and there will be lots of things to bid on. There will also be a silent auction, not to mention the dinner, so don't miss out!

2. If you just can't make it to the live auction, you're still in luck. You can put in a proxy bid online or join the auction by phone to place a bid. Cool eh! Check out the Q&A section below for more information.

Please note, international bidders are welcome to participate in the online proxy bidding, however, you will be responsible for shipping charges. If the item is larger or heavier than a loaf of bread, you may want to think twice before bidding. Also, remember all bids are in Canadian dollars, so check out a currency converter before you bid!

The Dinner

You are in for a real treat! You'll have an opportunity to relax and catch up with brethren & sisters and friends from all over Southern Ontario. The dinner buffet is in support of the Agape in Action Academy so you can feel good about sitting back and having the night off! Make sure you get hold of a dinner ticket quick because seats are limited. See your ecclesial rep for a dinner ticket or contact Lois Rivard (brivard@alumni.uwaterloo.ca). If paying for your dinner ticket by cheque, please make it our to 'Agape in Action' and earmark it 'Auction Fundraiser'. Prices for the dinner tickets are as follows:

Age 3 and under : FREE
Age 4 to 12 : $12
Age 13 and up : $25

The dinner will run from 4:00pm - 5:30pm. The silent auction will take place at the same time as the dinner, which will then be followed by the live auction.

Check out the mouth watering menu here.

Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to help out - LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS! If you can help on the day of the auction and/or the days leading up to the auction, click on the button below and send us your details and we'll be in touch! If you're in high school, this will be a very cool way to earn those community service hours!

Q&A's

Auction

What is the money from the auction going towards?
100% of the money raised from the auction will be donated towards the building of, and resources for, the “Agape in Action Academy”. You can learn more about this project here.

Can I come to the live auction if I don’t buy a dinner ticket?
Yes, you are welcome to come at 6 p.m. for the live auction.

Can I get my donation picked up?
Yes, please click on the 'donate an item' button above or contact Allan (jessallanruss@hotmail.com) or Beau (brivard@alumni.uwaterloo.ca)

Can I bring my donation on the actual day (Sat. November 19th)?
Items can be brought on the day, however we would need the item at the location before 3 p.m. We would also require full details and a picture of the item prior to the day, so that it can be added to the list of items.

I can’t make it the day of the auction, can I still bid on items?
Yes, there are two ways you are still able to participate in the bidding.

  1. Online proxy bidding is open on some items prior to the event and closes two days before the live auciton – Thursday, November 17th. When you bid online, you are giving the organizing committee your maximum bid for an item and they will then bid for you during the live auction.  No one knows this bid amount except the immediate sales staff.  We will however, let people know at the onset of the sale that there are proxy bids and the buyer would be announced once “SOLD” is said. If there's little competition for the item, you may win it for less than the amount you authorized.
  2. Telephone bidding - You leave a phone number, which you can be reached at during the auction.  You would then be called a few items prior to the item you are interested in.

I live outside of Canada, can I participate in the online bidding?
Yes, you sure can. However, you will be paying for the shipping and this could be quite expensive depending in the item. Look on eBay for a similar item to get an idea of international shipping charges. All items will be shipped from Ontario, Canada. As a very rough rule of thumb, if the item is larger or heavier than a loaf of bread, you'd better do your homework on shipping costs to avoid any surprises!

Have a question, contact our auctioneer Kevin Kraker (thekrakars@gmail.com)

Meal

Is the meal peanut free?
No, sorry, the meal will not be peanut free.

Who can I buy dinner tickets from?
Please see your Ecclesial Representative.  If you do not know who this is please contact Lois Rivard (brivard@alumni.uwaterloo.ca).

Volunteering

Can I volunteer to help on the day?
Yes, there are a number of areas were volunteers will be needed. Please click on the 'volunteer' icon above or directly contact Lois Rivard (brivard@alumni.uwaterloo.ca).

I am a High School student and want to volunteer.  Can this count towards my volunteer hours?
Yes, if you would like it to go towards your volunteer hours please bring the paper work that is required.  Paperwork will be completed over the following week.  Please provide your email address so that it can be emailed back to you.

Children

Can I bring my children?
Yes, there are dinner tickets available at a reduced price (children 3 and under are free) and there will be an additional room for them to be in. This room will have minimum supervision. If your child requires one-on-one care, please plan to keep them with you or hire a sitter for the evening.  Thanks.
